MODERN TECHNOLOGY

As we all know, we all are living in the 21st Century. Is there anyone who is still very historical? Or anyone who is trying to light up their camp-fires with stones or two pieces of stick? Majority of us would use our lighters, yet some would be so ‘into the camp-fire thing’ that they would prefer to use these old methods. There’s nothing wrong in it. They just want to bring out the true spirit of camping.
The world is growing and growing, and so is the technology. It would be a stupid thing if we, the citizens, did not value our inventors’ works and use them like how they are suppose to. Just imagine! If people didn’t use online communication apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, etc. then how would we be able to communicate all around the world?! I understand phone calls and texting via sms. But one should be clever enough to realize how much money we would waste on the balance and message packs.
I am a young boy of nineteen and I am a big fan of these technologies, and admire the work of our inventors. Since I am familiar with these technologies, I know how useful and important they are in our lives. And to be honest, I know how badly they could affect us, and even spoil our studying. But for those who know how to control themselves, there can’t be a better way for a student to get general knowledge of the surrounding environment.
We say books are the primary source of knowledge, and reading newspapers too. Yes! It is true that they are the main source of our G.K. Even I rely on my books in most occasions, as far as studying is concerned. But what I don’t find in these books are good quality of pictures and videos that explain more clearly the meaning of that topic. A particular book cannot have all the details of a specific topic, and neither does the link/website in a Google page. It takes many more books and yes, websites to get the information you want.
Although, I want all of us to think again, books cost money and to have all the good books in the world, you need to use lots of your hard-earned money, which I think is worth the price. But, instead of using lots of money on those books, why don’t you just start an internet connection at your home and look many good websites regarding the topic you want to see. It saves money and is less time-consuming.
I want to compare this with my experience. When I was in middle school and high school, teachers use to explain very clearly and they were afraid we wouldn’t understand. They gave us class-notes and even if we studied only those notes, we could pass in a good position with good marks. Now I have started my college life and things are getting very different. Teachers are now very much in a hurry, since our topics are more in number compared to school. Our institution provides us with the necessary books for our semester without us having to pay for it, and in addition, we were given three library cards to borrow three extra books.
Honestly, I have never gone to our library to borrow books. Instead I just look online and download videos regarding our topic. I found it very useful because sometimes I don’t get what the teacher said in class. There are many useful videos on the Internet and they help me a lot when I revise the class notes. If the Internet is useful for me, I know it’s going to be very useful for other students who are in the same position as I am.
Even though the Internet is an asset for students, it can also very much spoil our studying if we do not know the limits of using it. I have a friend who is in the same class as I am. He brought his laptop to his room in the hostel and as far as I know, he is using it only for playing online games. I am saying this for my friend and all the others like him, to stop using the Internet as a means of playing games or wasting their time. I’m not saying this implies only for them. I am also very familiar with these games, but I don’t want them to spoil my life.
Remember, as students, studying comes first. There will always be time to enjoy. If we know the limits of using the Internet, it can be very beneficial for us. But if not, then chances are, we’re going to end up as a jobless person, wandering the streets and going inside people’s houses and looking for small jobs. I’m not looking down to those people who do this kind of job, but I’m saying this for our present generation, that we can do much better and taste the sweet fruit of success.
To conclude, I want to say once again, the modern technologies which are present in our lives and those which are yet to be discovered can be very useful for us if we know how to use it in the right way. It is our duty and responsibility that we do so.
